How amazing is it to see this kind of humility displayed by someone who probably arm wrestled, foot-raced, and did who knows what else to prove superiority while growing up! There is a relationship between maturity and humility.

Ryans last blog post..Blogger Small Group :: Thoughts on James 1:1

Re: Blogger Small Group: James 1 | Consuming Worship

Like your thoughts on 5-8...I continue to struggle, and need to revisit these verses.

Michaels last blog post..Blogger Small Group

Re: Blogger Small Group: James 1 | Consuming Worship

"Care for their body and relieve their distress, then you may be given opportunity to care for their soul." I love this line. Ultimately that is what we are to do, care for their soul. However, we are not granted that ability right from the start.

Another great line you wrote was, "Get it straight, it is not God that temps us, but our own lusts and evil desires." So many times I have heard people say, "God is testing me." Are you kidding?! God would not place us in a position intentionally where we would disobey Him, or tear Him down. Satan places us in many positions to tear down God's Kingdom. It's then that God tells us he "supplies a way out". God is always looking to deliver us from evil doings, to deliver us from ourselves.

Good Stuff...I'm sure I'll have more to say later.

www.vagabondrunn.wordpress.com

Kyles last blog post..Blogger Small Group

Re: Blogger Small Group: James 1 | Consuming Worship

@Mandy: I agree completely. Just like later on in the same chapter where it talks about trials and struggles, I agree that God allows those things to happen. I think your assessment of allow-achieve is right on. Just look at Job for an example.

I think the thing to settle on is that God Himself will not send temptation to sin, but He (because of free will) will allow the temptations around us to do their work. By doing so, when we rely on Him rather than ourselves to defeat the temptations, we come out stronger for His work.

Jeff M. The only part I disagree on is verse 13 & 14. I believe that sometimes God ALLOWS us to be tempted. Sometimes things happen that don't REFLECT His righteousness, but will ACHIEVE His righteousness. Allowing sinful things to happen to believers, can perfect their faith, can strengthen the church, and can make believers stronger & more effective. Luke 22 is a good example.

Mandys last blog post..Blogger Small Group
